The 46th season of Sesame Street debuts on its notable new home, HBO, on January 16, and in anticipation, the channel has released a new trailer and show poster. Check out the video below.
Lots of celebrities join Big Bird, Elmo, and Cookie Monster in the new trailer—celebrities like Jon Hamm, Tina Fey, Pharrell, and Gwen Stefani. There's even a Star Wars shoutout with Cookie Monster as Han Solo, and Chewbacca re-imagined as, well, a cookie.
Two 30-minute episodes of Sesame Street will debut on HBO at 9 am ET, with new and classic episodes available for streaming on HBO Now and HBO Go. Sesame Street won't be leaving PBS, either. New episodes will play on PBS nine months after their original release. Older episodes of Sesame Street will continue to play on PBS Kids on weekdays.
Sesame Street has been an hour-long show for a while now, but HBO has departed from that format, running at "a dynamic 30 minutes, helping kids focus their attention and engage with each story." After the debut, fans can expect one new 30-minute episode per week.
“Families will see fun and fresh changes to Sesame Street and can depend on their favorite Muppet friends to provide them with engaging and educational content,” says Brown Johnson, EVP and creative director at Sesame Workshop.
